University of Bolton to host basketball summer camp

The camp will be hosted by the University of Bolton at the Bolton One sports centre from late July into August.

Run by former professional basketball player Anastasios Traianos, it will give youngsters between the age of 14 and 18 the chance to be coached by the iconic Joe Arlauckas.

Anastasios said: “Being involved in basketball in Greater Manchester, I have been impressed with the rise in popularity of the sport over the last decade.

“More and more young people are loving the game and wanting to improve.

“We wanted to create something beyond the traditional basketball camps to give young players the opportunity to broaden their horizons and have an extraordinary experience.

Anastasios’ career has taken in the top leagues of Greece and the British Basketball League with the Manchester Giants.

Adding to that experience is Joe Arlauckas, who was named as one of the 101 greatest players in European basketball and has worked with stars as high profile as Kobe Bryant.

“We are delighted to have him leading this programme at the University of Bolton this summer alongside a host of renowned and highly experienced coaches.”

The programme will include workshops in positive media exposure, pro-style drills, strength and conditioning sessions and a performance evaluation.

Young people taking part will also be able to go on a trip to the Anderton Centre and to access the university’s sports science facilities.
