Man exposed himself to two women in an area popular with visitors

Two women were in the area in November last year.

Bolton Crown Court heard while they were inside a vehicle they were approached by Steven Rushworth.

He first asked if they were ok and they said they were fine.

Rushworth then moved away before going on to perform a sexual activity on himself.

The act lasted for around two minutes.

The women then went to look for a police officer they had passed on the way to Rivington and Rushworth was detained a short time later.

Duncan Wilcock, prosecuting, read victim impact statements from the two women.

The first said: “It was a scary experience. The whole experience has upset me.

“It was very distressing. I will avoid the area in the future.”

The second one said: “I have been through something like this in the past.

“Knowing this type of things are still going on brought it all back to me.”

Rushworth, 48 and from Fell Street, Leigh, Wigan, appeared in court after admitting exposure.

Andrew Costello, defending, said he needed help from the probation service.

Judge Martin Walsh placed him on a community order to last for two years.

He ordered him to attend  30 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

He also made him subject to the sex offenders’ register for a period of five years.

He said: “You are 48 years of age and you have no previous convictions recorded against you.

“Your behaviour has caused upset and distress to two female who witnessed your behaviour.

“I have considered with care the contents of the reports.

“The appropriate sentence is a community order to last for two years.”
