Gastritis bacterium has potential to resist drugs, says research

Severe infection with Helicobacter pylori can result in ulcers and stomach cancer. Annually, there are over 1.2 million new cases of stomach cancer, causing 8,65,000 deaths worldwide. Eliminating Helicobacter pylori infection is difficult due to its alarming levels of antibiotic resistance. The WHO has classified it as a ‘high priority’ condition, stressing the urgent requirement for new therapies.
