Bolton taxi driver has car attacked with substance again – and it’s on CCTV

Mazhar Iqbal’s car was ruined in May this year after someone poured paint stripper all over his car.

As a result, Mazhar – who relies on his car in his job as a taxi driver – bought a new vehicle at the cost of £13,000.

Despite a full police investigation, including house-to-house enquiries and CCTV, the perpetrator was not found.

Now, he’s been the victim of a second attack, which was caught on CCTV in the early hours of the morning on Friday, September 13.

His vehicle had been parked on Whitley Street, around the corner from his Loxham Street home, on the night of the attack.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Mazhar – who has lived in the area since 2002 – said he was worried the attack could be racially motivated.

He said: “To be honest, I have to move from here – I have no option.

“This is not a safe country anymore, to be honest with you.

“I’m living here, I’ve been attacked many, many years every year, more than twice a year.

“If someone has thrown this acid on the car, tomorrow they might attack myself as well. I’m not safe.”

The 43-year-old, who has three children, says his kids refuse to play outside in the garden.

He added: “They’re living in stress – they’re scared, they don’t play outside in the garden, they are staying in all the time.

“They’re scared, they’re saying ‘we are not safe’.”

Mazhar is now facing a loss of income due to the attack, as he is unable to use his car.

He said: “I lose my income as well, and it’s very annoying – community and the kids going to school see stuff like this, it’s completely bad, it’s not a good image for the local community.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating reports of harassment on Loxham Street in Bolton.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.”
