Bolton: 41-year-old released on bail after being arrested for murder

Emergency services were called to Bushell Street, Deane on Sunday morning following concerns for the welfare of a woman.

They found she was injured and despite their best efforts the 37-year-old died.

Following this, Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 41-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A force spokesperson said: “He has now been released on bail.”

The street was cordoned off for the remainder of Sunday as forensic officers carried out investigations.

This week the house where the incident took place remained cordoned off along with Back Nunnery Street which is behind the property.

Residents of the street expressed their shock at what had taken place.

One said: “I know that a man was taken away in handcuffs.

“I saw a man getting arrested, that was at about 11am yesterday (Sunday).

“The road was blocked off.

“There were forensics here and CSI.

“I have lived here 25 to 30 years, it is definitely out of character.”

Another woman said she was told by police a woman had died.

She said: “Someone passed away.

“That is what were told, that a woman has died.

“I saw somebody being arrested on Sunday morning.

“It is a shock.

“It is a lovely area, a lovely quiet area.

“The neighbours here are really lovely.”

On Monday, Detective Inspector Janet Malone, from Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton district, said: “We are continuing to investigate all of the details of this incident and have moved quickly to look at all details and evidence available to us.

“I appreciate that this will come as concerning news for those in the area.
